General Affairs Division

  • Takes responsibility for administrative, financial, and comprehensive affairs of the Institute, such as personnel, payroll, budgets, accounting, maintenance of facilities, and management of other general matters.
  • Arranges contracts with organizations who request tests and issue relevant documents in accordance with the test results, maintains and organizes public archives, and assists in the training of staff and employees of affiliated organizations.

  • Deals with the planning and coordination of research and health crisis management systems to contribute to public health and hygiene.

  • Administers tests to ensure the quality and safety of food products on the market, which are in accordance with the Food Sanitation Law.
  • Investigates and conducts research to identify the causative agents in infectious diseases and food poisoning.

  • Carries out epidemiological analysis and study of pathogenic agents from infectious diseases and food poisoning.
  • Conducts research on imported infectious diseases, fungi in foods, and toxins in fish and shellfish.

    Virology Division

    ●Tests and Examinations
  • Performs various diagnostic tests and examinations for various types of viral infections.
  • Carries out tests for rickettsiosis, parasitosis, and insects and animals such as mosquitoes, mites and rodents which transmit pathogens.
  • ●Surveys and Research
  • Develops diagnostic tests for viral, parasitosis and rickettsial diseases, and researches the pathological mechanisms involved.
  • Conducts research on preventative measures, cures for viral and parasitic diseases, and epidemiological studies for illnesses such as measles and HIV.

    Food Chemistry Division

    ●Tests and Examinations
  • Inspects food additives, pesticide residues, PCBs, veterinary drugs, mycotoxins, genetically modified foods, heavy metals, cooking utensils, kitchen appliances, containers and packages, which are in accordance with the Food Sanitation Law.
  • ●Surveys and Research
  • Develops analytical methods to engage in the examinations of pesticide residues, food additives, veterinary drugs, etc. using GC/MS and LC/MS/MS.

    ●Consultation and Guidance
  • Examines the approvals of drugs(including GMP), quasi-drugs, cosmetics and medical devices, and provides consultation to assist companies that are engaged in the manufacturing and/or importation of these products.

  • Performs tests on medicine, which are based on the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law.

  • Performs examinations of microorganisms and harmful substances in tap water, well water and water sources, which are based on laws and ordinances. 
  • Inspects pool water, bath water, hot springs, domestic wastewater and public sewage.
  • ●Surveys and Research
  • Conducts investigations to assess the level and distribution of microorganisms and unregulated toxic substances in various water environments.
